ABOUT ARCHIVE 00.

Archive 00 was launched in early 2020 by Hiromi Saito as a project designed to index, organize, showcase, and document the world of contemporary art.

Unlike typical art publications, Archive 00 does NOT have long articles; Instead, it focuses on something much more organic and raw. Inspired by one of the oldest archiving methods from Eastern history, we have adopted a unique approach of visual communication to explore the minds of artists.

Archive 00 is a combination of artworks and a handwritten, memo-like document that aims to peek into the perspectives of our beloved artists.  It champions qualities that are often considered to be unimportant. Experts in interpersonal communication have estimated that nonverbal communication constitutes approximately 70 percent of what is involved in communication. Though we don't feature sound and motion, we strongly believe that the old-school way, pen and paper, can convey much more than the typed-out texts. We feel that even the creation of the Emoji culture is somewhat suggesting the limitations of plain texts.

We wanted our readers to see the handwritings of the artists, the random (or seemingly irrelevant) doodles, and memos. We feel that even the slightest details, like a small coffee stain, or a spelling mistake can tell us something about the artist. Archive 00 attempts to document a segment of the artist's vision, allowing the readers to grasp more than what can be expressed through plain texts.
